Bye Bye Summer…

Well, we certainly had a lovely one this year, didn’t we? While the sun is still shining, though, there’s a distinct nip in the air and autumn is definitely creeping in as UK pumpkin growers rub their hands in glee at the thought of October’s bounty. Which is an unnecessarily prosaic way of saying that it’s nearly Halloween.

Talking of nearly Halloween, we suggested at the end of our last Voices event that a Halloween special might be on the cards. We’ve decided, all things considered, that rather than trying to compete with the pubs and clubs on the big night itself we will stick to our established Thursday night routine and hold our event on November 1st – a date that Debbie has now confirmed. So there you have it: a Voices Halloween Special on November first from 7:30 at Javabean Cafe – what could be better?

As always we’ll be offering the usual mix of open mic words and music, but it would be particularly lovely if people read and sung material fitting to the theme of the evening. Fancy dress is optional, but it would certainly add to the fun were a few vampires and witches and werewolves to show up. Not to mention the ghoulies. I said not to mention… …

I have not yet looked to see what Karaoke tracks are around, but CAN announce that ‘Werewolves of London’ is already taken. If you have another Halloween favourite give a shout and we’ll see if we can find it. Proper musicians, of course (and their ranks are swelling with each event), have no such need of backing tracks, and the ‘house’ guitar and uke (amplified AND with straps this time round!) will be available for those who want ’em.

See you in November, you groovy creatures of the night!
